Puff Count Explained: How Long Does a Disposable Really Last?
Puff count is the headline number on every disposable vape box, but it’s an estimate from the manufacturer’s test rig, not a guarantee. Draw length, e-liquid capacity and battery size all shift the real number up or down.
What actually drives puff count
- E-liquid capacity. A 9000-puff device with 14mL of e-liquid is delivering roughly 0.0015mL per puff — the same rough ratio you’ll find across most brands.
- Battery capacity. Once the battery can no longer power the coil, the device is done even if there’s e-liquid left. This is why rechargeable disposables (USB-C top-up) tend to use all of their e-liquid, while pre-charged-only devices sometimes don’t.
- Draw length. A quick, sharp puff uses less e-liquid than a long, slow one. Manufacturer puff counts assume a standard ~1.5 second draw.
Rough real-world guide
| Puff Count | Typical E-Liquid | Roughly Equivalent To |
|---|---|---|
| 2000 | 8mL | A few days of moderate use |
| 5000 | 13mL | About a week |
| 9000+ | 14mL+ | Just over a week for most users |
Treat the number on the box as a ceiling, not a promise — and if a device dies well short of its rated puff count, it’s usually the battery, not the e-liquid, that ran out first.
